About Us

We are truly muilticultural

Custom House Baptist Church is a vibrant multicultural, multiracial church made up of people from 22 different nationalities and growing all the time. Everyone is equal, everyone is equally valued. As we love to say:

“We are not a White church, we are not a Black church, we are not an Asian church (or anything in between)

We are God’s church”

We love all things family

Most people call us a family church too and this isn’t surprising given the special attention we give to our children and youth work. Truth be told we support every aspect of family life – marriage, parenting, finances and so on.
This does not mean singles are left out, you will feel very much at home too enjoying great fellowship in an easy going environment; that’s why we also call ourselves ‘The House’, a place where you can come to hear God’s word, enjoy the company of others, listen to great Christian music or simply seat down and enjoy a few snacks on us in Café 3:16.

We are a teaching church

Regular attendees have also described us as a teaching church and again this is true given our emphasis on the careful teaching of all aspects of the Bible. If you are new to church, we’ll get you up to speed right away; we run several courses that would help you get a better grasp of the Christian faith – just ask or explore the courses we offer on our website.
Having said all the above the truth is that it’s impossible to know enough about us online. Visiting over a few weeks will be just about right if you want to know much more about us – our connections ministry is always on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Meanwhile you can download our latest church brochure below; in it you’ll find more information about us, what we believe, our mission, vision and other good stuff

God bless
From all at ‘The House’

Our Mission

Our church mission is to bring people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by heartfelt Witnessing, Welcoming them into His family, teaching them to walk in His footsteps, and encouraging them to do His works in order to please God.

Our mission is taken directly from two great commands in the Bible.

The Great Commandment

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind ……. love your neighbour as yourself. All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments. Matthew 22:37 – 40

The Great Commission

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28: 19 – 20

Our Vision

Our vision is to build a multicultural, multiracial church in Jesus name where all are bound together by God’s grace. We want our church to stand as a testament to how because of Christ all are one, It makes no difference if you are White or Black or Asian, rich or poor, single or married, young or old, immigrant or otherwise (and many other things that divide) In Christ we are all the same and loved equally.

Our prayer is that through our faithful worship and service in the community we would be a blessing to the Custom House area and the larger London Borough of Newham. We pray that eventually all living in our community would come to a saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Our Passion

Our passion is to see a our community transformed, a community where older people are not abandoned to poverty and loneliness, a community where our children can play safely and grow up healthy and respectful of others. We want to see a community free of litter. We want to see a place where everyone pulls together for a better community irrespective of faith, race, gender or orientation.

As a church we want to be at the heart of the community, working alongside it to bring about a gentler, kinder and more prosperous community (and we are working on it)

But over and above everything we want to see everyone come to know God through Jesus Christ. We believe this is what really transforms hearts in the here and now and brings  peace and joy for all eternity. We are hope-filled that our community can be transformed by the love of Christ working in all. Will you join us?
